Our Purpose

The Enterprising Women Foundation Mentoring Program provides high school girls with an opportunity to meet and connect with outstanding women entrepreneurs in their community at a local event—a breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea—designed to recognize their leadership potential, inspire them to dream big, and focus on the next steps to realize their potential as entrepreneurs or leaders in STEM-based fields and other industries.

Enterprising Women is a partner in the Million Women Mentors Project and has committed to bringing a focus on opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to high school girls who may not have role models or mentors. Over the next 20 years, STEM-based industries will lead the way and participation among girls is still lagging in technology, engineering, and related fields. With its strong network of successful women entrepreneurs, Enterprising Women is uniquely positioned to connect outstanding women entrepreneurial leaders with high school girls, many of whom will be the first generation in their families to attend college or may be from at-risk communities where mentoring options are limited or not available.

In communities where mentorship programs do exist, the Enterprising Women Foundation Program will provide existing mentoring programs for high school young women with a unique resource to enhance their programming. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and learn from highly successful women entrepreneurs and corporate leaders from a wide range of industries—many from STEM-based fields.

The Program

The event program provides a highly interactive environment. The format includes a panel discussion featuring successful women entrepreneurs and partners with diverse backgrounds sharing their stories and answering questions from the high school girls. Following the panel discussion, most events will feature roundtable mentorship discussions in small groups with the high school girls seated at tables based on their interest areas (for example, girls interested in technology would be seated with women entrepreneurs with technology expertise).

The girls should come prepared with questions to ask about career choices, entrepreneurship, leadership, or related issues.

• Criteria for the selection of girls to attend the event

o Demonstrated interest in entrepreneurship, and/or
o Strong interest in one of the STEM fields
o Demonstrated leadership potential

• One adult representing the partner organization is also invited to attend and accompany the girls from their organization or school.

Special Opportunity

Two girls from each event will receive a scholarship to include air fare, hotel, meals and incidentals for themselves and one parent or adult chaperone to attend the 2016 Enterprising Women Conference in Miami, Florida on February 28 – March 1, 2016.

The girls will have an opportunity to meet highly successful women entrepreneurs and leaders from around the world and will participate in a program developed specifically for them that includes inspiring speakers, the opportunity to meet in one-on-one mentorship sessions targeted to their areas of interest, ask questions of women business owners and leaders, and participate in special workshops.

Each organization is invited to submit nominations for the top two girls they would like to be considered for this scholarship opportunity. A panel of women entrepreneurs from their community will make the final recommendation on the scholarship recipients and winners will be notified by the first week in January. For events held in the fall of 2015, scholarship winners will be announced at the local events.

Criteria for nominating candidates for the scholarship program

• The nominee has demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in leadership and/or entrepreneurship or a STEM-based program.
• The nominee has demonstrated high interest in learning and personal growth

Nomination Process

The nomination form is available on the Enterprising Women Foundation Website. Nominees will be provided with a local contact and deadline date to return the nomination form by email.
