Renee Bovelle, MD is a Physician Executive and Medical Director of Advanced Eyecare Medical Center “dba” Envision Eye and Laser. Dr. Bovelle, a board-certified ophthalmologist, was trained at Wellesley College, UCLA School of Medicine, Yale University, and the LSU Eye Center. She has held leadership positions both locally and nationally in ophthalmic and other medical associations. A commitment to excellence in ophthalmic training and surgical technique, coupled with her expertise with state-of-the-art technology, has enabled Dr. Bovelle to earn her patients’ confidence and trust. She is pleased to be named a 2021 Washingtonian TOP DOCTOR by her peers. Additionally, Dr. Bovelle received a Master’s in Cybersecurity Strategy and Information Management from GWU and focused on policies and practices that protect critical information with particular attention to the healthcare field.
She holds academic appointments at Howard University Hospital, Ross University School of Medicine and the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center. She has been privileged to educate medical students, residents, and physicians locally and during national conferences on a broad array of issues in ophthalmology and cybersecurity.
As a physician, Dr. Bovelle is also keenly aware of cyber-security issues, especially as they relate to healthcare. She co-authored the first MedChi-approved continuing medical education course on Cybersecurity for Physicians and continues this work with both national and regional medical organizations. Dr. Bovelle is a cybersecurity consultant and has authored papers on healthcare and cyber-security issues, including Blockchain, Supply Chain Risk, and the Medical Internet of Things. She also presents on various cybersecurity and HIPAA topics at both national and international medical and cybersecurity conferences. Topics include Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Ransomware, HIPAA Policy and Strategy, and Healthcare Cybersecurity Issues.
She holds leadership positions both locally and nationally in ophthalmic and other medical associations. Currently, she represents the Maryland Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons (MSEPS) as a councilor to the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is on the MedChi Board of Trustees. Under Dr. Bovelle’s leadership as MSEPS president, the organization received the 2021 Star Award for innovative delivery of education and value to society members. Dr. Bovelle is a Key Opinion Leader and advisory board member for several pharmaceutical companies. She has also authored a chapter in Navigating A Triple Pandemic: Volume 3: Claiming Our Healing & Embracing a New Normal. Moreover, she is a mentor to underrepresented minorities in medicine and actively promotes diversity in the pharmaceutical industry as well. She is a dynamic board member on several organizations that align with her vision.
