Votes Tallied! Winners Announced for 2016 Frame My Future Scholarship Contest

Monroe, CT – May 12, 2016 – Church Hill Classics (CHC), a leading manufacturer and online retailer in the college diploma frame industry, announced the five Winners of its 8th annual Frame My Future Scholarship Contest today. Each of the Winners will receive a $1,000 scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year.

The nationwide Frame My Future Scholarship Contest 2016, which launched in October 2015, asked students to submit an original creation expressing what they hope to achieve in their personal and professional lives after college. Using a mix of photographs, poetry, essays, collages, paintings, and graphic design work, more than 4,800 students offered a creative glimpse into how they would frame the future they imagined for themselves. The scholarship contest was open to all students attending college on a full-time basis in the 2016-2017 academic year.

From the 4,800 submissions they received, Church Hill Classics selected 24 Finalists and posted their entries online for a one-month public voting period. The Finalists reached out to family, friends, teachers, newspapers, local organizations, and online communities to garner votes. The five entries with the most votes received the $1,000 scholarship.

The top-voted entry, the Grand Prize Winner, was Micaela Wu of Temple City, California. Micaela’s interest in diet and health science propelled her to pursue a degree in Nutrition at California Polytechnic State University this fall.

“The journey to become our Grand Prize Winner isn’t easy. Having made it through several selection rounds and a month-long voting phase, Micaela is a dedicated and passionate young woman,” reveals Lucie Voves, President, Founder and CEO of Church Hill Classics. “Her commitment to her studies, extracurricular activities and our Frame My Future Contest has been impressive, and we wish her continued success in the future.”

In addition to giving Micaela $1,000 toward her tuition, Church Hill Classics will make a $1,000 donation to Cal Poly’s scholarship endowment fund in Micaela’s name. The donation to the university will benefit other students during their academic journeys.

Micaela’s winning creation is a photographic still-life of her future: science books, a cup of tea, a healthy breakfast, and a hand weight. At the heart of this composition is a smartphone featuring an image of Micaela with her friend Jena—the person who helped shape the future Micaela envisions.

“The start of Jena’s recovery from her eating disorder signified a new beginning and marked the start of my interest in nutrition,” Wu explains. “The extremity of my close friend's condition both startled and fascinated me. Though I offered no professional help, I perused nutritional blogs and articles to offer her the best advice. Jena has long since recovered, but my interest in nutrition has not dwindled. I aspire to become a dietitian to help others, like Jena, overcome and conquer eating disorders.” View her full entry online.

Winners of 2016 Frame My Future Scholarship Contest

Troy Daley of Torrance, California submitted a photo collage depicting his passion for engineering and VEX Robotics. Troy plans to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering at Northwestern University this fall. “Through my college experience I hope to one day develop an efficient and cost-effective way of producing a new form of renewable energy that will be available to almost every home and company,” states Troy.

Anthony Morano of Massapequa, New York hopes to one day see his name in lights on Broadway, which is exactly what he portrayed in his Frame My Future entry. The scholarship will help Anthony pursue the dream he has worked so hard to achieve: “After meeting tough academic requirements and participating in hours of intense auditions, one dream has already come true—getting into Wagner College for Musical Theater Performance.”

Annie DeBroux of Irma, Wisconsin created a very moving charcoal illustration of a child in distress. Annie is a sophomore majoring in Early Childhood Education with a concentration in Special Education at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. “Teaching young mothers who need guidance, providing educational resources with programs, and counseling children is how I will achieve my dream of making a difference in the life of a child,” explains Annie.

Olivia Drapeau of Plymouth, Michigan will pursue a degree in Nutrition and Food Sciences at Schoolcraft College this fall. In Olivia’s photo submission, she is dressed as a chef and is holding a cupcake, which serves as her focal point. “Teaching others about my interest in cooking is important to me,” says Drapeau. “Creating food is an art to me, but it’s not just a hobby—it’s a career path.”
